Reviewing My Proof

December 4, 2010 at 10:23 pm (Uncategorized)

I’m working on reading my proof copy of the book. I keep finding little things to change. I don’t know how I’ll ever feel it’s 100% ready. I think I’ll always be able to find something to change. In college I used to declare my papers done when I only changed three things. I knew I could always keep changing things, second guessing. Occasionally I do find a real mistake though which is frustrating after all the editing this book has been through. I want it to be perfect, but I’m realizing perfect may be a bit subjective. My goal is to approve all the book’s file this next week. About two days later it will be available for sale. Just like that!

Lee, this is really magnificent.  “Vivid” is the word that comes to mind.  Your language is rich…and the story itself is immensely compelling.  The reader cares about the characters and wants to know what will happen next.  And it is a perfect allegory — an allegory that becomes apparent almost from the outset but never feels contrived. — copy editor, PA

Getting a Little Bit Closer

June 4, 2010 at 8:51 pm (Uncategorized)

I’ve decided to go ahead and self-publish the book. I am happy to know a publisher thinks the book is good enough to publish, but I am eager to be able to make the book available for reading online for free and to have it translated into other languages. Those are things I couldn’t do with a publisher. I am now waiting on the Lord. I need to have the book edited and a cover done. I don’t know yet how that will happen. In the meantime I’m finishing up edits on the supplementary materials and am still sending the book in PDF form to bloggers who request it. I’ll let you know when things progress.

New Comment on the Book

April 27, 2010 at 2:25 am (Uncategorized)

“I do love a good allegory, so I was greatly blessed by what I read. What a gift the Lord has placed in your life, referring not only to the story, of course, but to your presentation. I know people who love to say “I’m a writer”, but here finally is one with a unique and subtly picturesque style. Not forced, but flowing… easy yet elegant. Praise the Lord.”

Update on the Publisher

April 22, 2010 at 11:05 pm (Uncategorized)

The publisher has now made an offer where I would just need to buy 100 books. I have still not made a decision. I have written them about two things I am interested in doing:

One, offering a pdf version of the book free on my homeschool blog, and

Two, having the book translated into other languages.

I’m waiting to hear if they only want an exclusive arrangement that would preclude doing those things.

When I have that final information, I will make a decision about publication and let you know.

New Review

Igor Kaliberda, Pastor, New Jerusalem Church, Istanbul

“There are still many true Christians in the world who would be excited to read The King Will Make a Way by Lee Giles. The story, despite its fictional settings, is very realistic. The story helps us to live in Biblical holiness and to regard the realities of a second coming of Christ.”

They’ve Made Contact

April 9, 2010 at 5:08 pm (Uncategorized)

I got an email from the publisher that I sent the book into. They say they want to publish the book, BUT…

As a nobody (okay, they didn’t use that word) they want me to share the risk of publishing by buying 2000 copies myself. I could buy them at a discount and then sell them myself at a profit.

I wrote back and said I couldn’t do that and explained that our family lives in a slum in the Middle East! Now I’m waiting to hear from them again. I’ll keep you posted.

Another Quote

March 29, 2010 at 11:07 pm (Uncategorized)

That evening at the inn, away from the festivities, there was a meal and singing and reading of the law. Percy Katrid was there for the first time and recounted the morning’s events for the group. Gabe sensed there was something strange in the atmosphere, almost palpable, but only almost; he couldn’t put his finger on it. Gabe’s father, however, knew what it was—rebellion.
